Nero software has come a long way from its humble days as a CD burning program. Today the company offers several different suites of programs including Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD, which allows real editing, CD, DVD and Blu-Ray disc burning as well as data backup. Today we will be taking a closer look at this offering from Nero.
Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD is the total package for anyone wishing to work with multimedia on a PC system. With it installed you can manage your Pictures, Music and Videos as transfer and burn them to various media types and devices. Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD can be viewed as a combination of Apple’s iLife and Final Cut programs.
The Platinum version provides Blu-Ray disc playback for those who have Blu-Ray players installed on their computers. If you wish to transfer and convert content between mobile devices including Apple, Android and Microsoft based devices then the Nero Move It plug in will get that job done. Nero includes Creative Collection Pack that allows high definition video editing using various effects, themes and templates.
The software is compatible with windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. The full suite takes up 5 GB of hard drive space. For Blu-Ray disc playback you will need either a NVIDIA 8600 or higher or an ATI Radeon HD 3800 and above along with an HDCP compliant display with a digital connection.

- Since Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD deals with video encoding a powerful machine is recommended to get the most out of the software. For testing I was using a Quad Core Intel i7 920 with 12 GB of DDR3 combined with an NVIDIA 460GTX running Windows 7 64 Bit.
Performance wise Nero handles all its processes without a hiccup. I would assume a Dual Core machine might take a mild performance hit when heavily transcoding but with a Quad Core you shouldn’t have any problems.
Conclusion:
Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD is a powerhouse of useful applications ranging from the consistently solid Nero Burning ROM to the feature rich Nero Vision 10 designed for the aspiring Speilbergs of the world. There are some bugs in this version that future updates will hopefully address.
Although the suite is on the more expensive side, Nero packs an incredible amount of features and applications. Nero offers a limited trial period for those who want to “try before you buy”. There are there variations of the Nero suites so if you don’t plan on using all of the features in Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD you may want to check out the other Nero offerings. - Pros:
